Europa Cup 2 Man Bobsleigh

Cesana Pariol in Italy was host to the Europa Cup 2 Man bobsleigh race on Thursday 14 December 06. Cesana is a demanding bobsleigh track consisting of 19 corners over 1435 metres. 47 crews started the race but only 45 crews were ranked. The GB1 and GB2 sleds had a very good race. The GB1 sled consisted of an all Army crew with the pilot, Neil Scarisbrick being a Corporal in the Royal Tank Regiment and his brakeman Henry Nwume, a doctor in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Neil and Henry had a start time of 5.13 seconds and Neil had a reasonable drive down the track, completing the first heat in 51.13 seconds. This placed them in 14th position after the first heat. The GB2 sled also had a military feel to it with the pilot Martin Wright a member of the Royal Marines. His brakeman was Alan Condon. Martin and Alan had a start time of 5.02 seconds which was the 3rd fastest start of the first heat. Martin had a good run down the mountain and finished the first heat in 6th position with a time of 50.93 seconds. After the first run the medal positions were headed up by Canada I, with the Netherlands I sled in 2nd position and the Switzerland I sled in third position.

In the second heat, Neil Scarisbrick and Henry Nwume improved upon their first heat start time and they had a start of 5.09 seconds. Neil had a much better drive down the 19 corner track and he finished the 2nd run in 51.02 seconds. This was the 9th fastest run of the second heat. He had a combined finish time of 1 minute 42.15 seconds. Martin Wright and Alan Condon also improved on their first run start time. They had a start time of 5.00 seconds which was the 3rd fastest start of the second run. They finished the 2nd heat in 50.83 seconds which was the fourth fastest run of the second heat. This gave them a combined time of 1 minute 41.76 seconds. The final standings for the GB1 and GB2 crew once all the crews had slid were 10th position for Neil Scarisbrick and Henry Nwume (GB1) and 5th place for Martin Wright and Alan Condon (GB2). Martin Wright is now lying in 8th position in the Europa Cup 2 Man Individual Standings.
