Europa Cup Women?s Bobsleigh Race

07 December 2006

Konigssee, Germany - 07/12/2006

The second race of the Women?s Europa Cup Season took place on Thursday 7 December 2006 in Konigssee, Germany with twenty teams entering the race. Konigssee is a challenging bobsleigh track and is 1188 metres long. The GB1 sled was piloted by Army Corporal, Jackie Davies with her brakewoman being Heather Fisher. The girls were hoping to match or improve upon their silver medal performance at Igls the previous weekend. They had a start time of 5.44 seconds in the first run, which was the 3rd fastest start. Jackie had an excellent drive down the track and finished the run in 52.19 seconds. This placed her in 2nd position after the first run. The leader after all 20 sleds had completed the first run was the Germany I sled, piloted by Susi Erdmann. Konigssee is the home track for Susi so she has had many years of sliding there. In the second heat, Jackie and Heather improved upon their first run start time. They had a start of 5.42 seconds, which was again the 3rd fastest start. Jackie had a slightly slower finish time of 52.46 seconds but this was still the 2nd fastest finish of the 2nd heat. Jackie and Heather had a combined time of 1 minute 44.65 seconds which was 0.59 seconds behind the overall winner, Susi Erdmann. They achieved another excellent podium finish and took away a second silver medal in the space of 5 days. The women move onto Cesana in Italy for the final race before the Christmas break.
