Women's Europa Cup Bobsleigh Race

The first Europa Cup Women's bobsleigh race of the 2006/07 season took place on Sunday 3 December 06 in Igls, Austria. The Igls track is 1220 metres long and consists of 14 corners. 23 crews were on the start list for the race and 22 crews finished. Nicola Minichiello the GB1 driver was not sliding in the Igls race so the GB1 bib went to Corporal Jackie Davies and her brakewoman, Heather Fisher. Jackie and Heather had a strong start and pushed a 5.76 second start in the first run. This was the 5th fastest start of the first heat. Jackie had an excellent drive down the track and had a finish time of 54.76 seconds. This was only 0.02 seconds behind the leading Canada I sled piloted by Kaillie Simundsen. Both Jackie and Kaillie were brakewoman last season and they have both recently moved into the front seat to pursue a driving career.
Jackie and Heather started the second run with a faster start time than the first run of 5.71 seconds. This was the 3rd fastest start for the second heat. Jackie had another strong run down the 14 corner track and had a finish time of 55.22 seconds. This gave Jackie and Heather a combined finish time of 1 minute 49.98 seconds placing them in 2nd place, just 0.18 seconds behind the winning Canada I sled. They have made an excellent start to the Europa Cup season and Jackie and Heather fully deserve their 2nd place finish. The Europa Cup now moves onto Konigsee in Germany.
