Martini Drives to Victory in Altenberg World Cup Final

ALTENBERG, GERMANY (January 27, 2006) -- Cathleen Martini and Janine Tischer of Germany set a track record and posted an easy victory Friday night in the FIBT Women's Bobsleigh World Cup final.

Martini and Tischer recorded a 56.99 track record effort in the first run and came back with a 57.14 clocking in the second heat for a 1:54.13 total time.

Claudia Schramm and Patricia Polifka of Germany finished second with runs of 57.35 and 57.29 for a 1:54.64. Nicola Minichiello and Jackie Davies of Great Britain grabbed the bronze medal with runs of 57.37 and 57.55. That gave the British their first medal of the season with a 1:54.92 effort.

Completeing the top five were Ilse Broeders and Jeannette Pennings of the Netherlands, 1:55.29; and Esme Kamphuis and Christol Bertens of the Netherlands, 1:55.71.

The top five in the final World Cup standings: Sandra Kiriasis of Germany, Helen Upperton of Canada, 472; Shauna Rohbock of the USA, 436; Susi Erdmann of Germany, 431; and Jean Prahm of the USA, 400.
