Focus

Julia grew up in Staffordshire and competed in many sports before focusing on athletics. She was a member of Cannock and Stafford a/c competing in all the sprint events. After finishing school she read Physiology and Sport Science at the University of Leeds. She continued running and took bronze at the BUSA Indoor championships in 1997 and was captain of the University Athletics team until she graduated in 1997.

Although a promising athlete, after finishing University, she concentrated on her Career in the Heath and Fitness Industry. Her career has included Personal Training, Gym Manager, Sports Retail and Health Food Retail Management. Although not competing anymore, she continued a high level of training and started to look for a new challenge.

In early 2006, after watching the Winter Olympics bobsleigh events, she contacted the bobteamgb website, to find out how you can get involved with the sport. In May 2006 she was invited to a talent ID day and was invited back for further testing and training throughout the summer months. Following the final selection trials in September, Julia was selected to join Team GB for the Europa Cup Circuit for the 06/07 season.

Julias first experience of the Ice came in October at Selection trials in Lofer and she is looking forward to joining the team as a brakeman in November. She would like to use this first season to gain experience in the sport but her long term goal is to earn selection for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games to be held in Vancouver.

Julia lives in Stafford with her husband Craig and works for the County Council Education Section. She trains 6 days per week, mostly at local facilities and traveling to bath for push start training with the GB squad.
