Matt is a cabinet-maker from Crawley, West Sussex, and got involved in bobsleigh after watching the event in Turin on TV and responding to an appeal for new members.
Keen sportsman, Matt represented Crawley Athletics Club and Sussex as a sprinter and playing on the wing for Crawley Rugby Club and Sussex schoolboys’ rugby. Before joining the team had only ever seen a sprinkling of snow.
The former Thomas Bennett Community College student has made an instant impact, coming third in the 2-Man bobsleigh team in the Europa Cup in Winterberg. He has also now joined the 4-Man bob and joins up with his teammates as a pusher.
Having rocketed to the top of the sport, Matt is hoping to stay there until the next Winter Olympics comes around in 2010.
