British Championships 2007

27 February 2007

Congratulations to all the teams who took part in this year's British Championships, which were held in Igls, Austria from February 19-28.

This year's event saw headline sponsors such as AON, Nucleus Data, Touch and 3aIT, taking part in Taxi-Bob rides, as well as meeting athletes and experiencing the buzz and excitement trackside as they watched the British Teams compete.

Other VIPs attending included auction winners from Auctionair, prize winners from Jamieson Corporate Finance, Lane Packaging, the Leeds Cancer Charity and corporate partners, Professional Cricketers Association, who enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime taxi-bob experience, hurtling down the bobsleigh track behind a World Class bobsleigh driver.

Here are just some of the comments from participants who completed the run.

John Sugden, of Bobteam GB sponsor, Nucleus Data, said: "It was a truly mind blowing experience, absolutely awesome. I would highly recommend it."

Jonathan Glover, of Bobteam GB's headline sponsors, AON, said: "Just brilliant, absolutely fantastic. It was just amazingly quick and you can really feel yourself being pushed round the bends."

Feeling the incredible speeds of the taxi-bob, Shiplake prize winners Mike and Gordon Lane, of Lane Packaging, said: "fantastic, especially the last bit, it was so blurry as you go round the bend and hurtle to the straight it was unbelievable.

"I knew we could do it, it was such a challenge!"

A Television programme showing the footage of The British Championships was shown on Channel TV on Tuesday, March 6th. Details of this and forthcoming programmes are available from the Channel TV website at http://bobsleigh.channelonline.tv/

An awards ceremony was held at the newly opened Congress Centre in Igls, and included a presentation to race winners as well as music from Landaus, who made a special trip from Hull to play at the event.

The official Bobteam GB band performed a set which included original tracks from their album, such as Sitting In My Rocking Chair, Running, Ladykiller and Walk Around to name but a few.

Before entertaining the crowd by taking requests and performing acoustic tracks such as the Chilli Pepper's 'Under The Bridge'. The Landaus has supported many mainstream bands, including Kasabian and Westlife. We are sure they are destined to achieve huge success.

Many thanks to all those who took part, and here's looking forward to next year's British Championships!
