Congratulations from the British Bobsleigh Association to Rudman and Timson.

17 February 2006

The Board, Athletes and Coaches of British Bobsleigh Association send their congratulations to Shelley Rudman who last night took silver in the skeleton bobsleigh to win the first medal for Britain of the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Rudman was in fourth place after the first run then a sensational second slide put her on the podium in the Turin Games.

She recorded an overall time of 2min 1.06sec - 1.23sec behind the Swiss champion Maya Pedersen.

Performance director of the BBA Gordon Bosworth led the plaudits; "this is a fantastic achievement for Shelley, for her coaches, for GB ice sport, and for Simon Timson the performance director of GB Bob Skeleton, architect of the system that has thrown Shelley into the limelight after just 4 years in the Sport. And excitingly there is still much more to come from Shelley and indeed the whole of Simon's program."

All eyes are now on the men's skeleton which takes place tonight, with the 2-Man bobsleigh running over 2 days on Saturday and Sunday.
