World Championship - Disappointment for GB Women, but 4-Man teams looking to make History...

03 February 2007

Saturday 3rd February 2007

Women's 2-man
In the first run of the day Nicola and Lauren came 8th and achieved the 9th best start of the World Championships. They came in 16th overall.
Jackie and Paula gained the 11th best start of the World Championships and finished in 14th place.

Performance Director Richard Simmons: "It wasn't what we were after but there are some great positives. For Jackie it was her first championship race in the position of driver and although Paula has previously competed, it was also her first World Championship."

Men's 4-man
GB1 Lee Johnston's team achieved an exciting 6th place at the halfway point of the competition; the Bronze medal is within touching distance.

GB2 Neil Scarisbrick's team ranked 13th place and achieved very positive start times.
There are two more races scheduled for tomorrow.

Richard Simmons:

"Three athletes in each team are competing in the World Championships for the first time.
It is a very young team and both men and women gave an outstanding performance.

For Neil's team to come within the top 20 of a World Championship competition is brilliant and they are within touching distance of 10th place which would be a fantastic achievement. We are really excited for them."
