Update from Jackie Davies

20 February 2007

World Cup athlete, Jackie Davies, currently training in Cesana, Italy, speaks about training and her hopes for the team.

"I really enjoyed the race in Winterberg. After a disastrous time on the Europa cup I was looking forward to conquering it.

"Paula has been a god send this season, even after me crashing her seven times last time we were there, she didn't once make me feel bad and always had a positive attitude. These are really some of the qualities that make her such a great breakman."

She added: "We had a good race. We improved on our start in the Europa Cup from 5.84 to a 5.75 in the first heat. We were 10th after the first run, but dropped to 13th after the second run which was not as good.

"We were a bit disappointed, but its early days and we know how much we can improve. On a positive note we beat some very experienced teams as we did in Cesana and we know we can only get better. I especially enjoy this track."

Speaking about the recent outstanding results for the team at the World Championships in St Moritz, Jackie said: "I was pleased with World Champs result last week We have a lot to build on, but it was a good start into the World class field. I was very pleased for the men's four man teams what a great result!

"We are currently training in Cesana, most of the team went home for various reasons so there is just myself and Paula for the women and Shiner, Carl, Ryan and Matt Roberts for the guys. It's been quite difficult, as we have no ice coach on world cup this week. We have been recalling favours from other teams and most are happy to help. Well training here has gone well got a rest day today so off to polish runners.
