Jenny's Birthday.

Weather sunny but cold. The boys unloaded the sleds - still in the Christmas mood while the girls went over their weekly and daily goals.

Dan had had what he calls a "nice" early morning call from the drug testers - 12th of the year. But he is buoyant; for him the weather is awesome and he's starting to feel "very Olympic".

The first team meetings went down well, much banter, good fun and light hearted. A number of people have commented privately that at the moment all seems well - as if they wonder that it will last.

Gordon wanted to check all the Athletes after lunch and the boys had a striding and weights session to do in the afternoon.

After frenetic activity getting sleds ready, all the bookings at the bob and push tracks had to be made. On the way there was another vehicle problem; Tom's van broke down. The girls went for their first ice push training session while the boys helped Tom to fix the sleds.

The girls had a steady day and are looking forward to getting on the ice tomorrow. Both Jackie and Nicola have decided that the hotel is so good, the food so tempting that they will have to be careful about putting on weight.

They were pleased with their push session and an excellent gym session. The Swiss have built a push track with a similar profile to Torino - Jackie reckons it's fantastic to have the opportunity to practice "Torino starts" though Nicola doesn't rate it as highly as the track at Bath. The pushing was technically good but very hard to push the bob back up the hill.

Jackie and Nic are sure that they are in the best physical shape of their lives - everything feels like it is coming together at the right time. And technically they reckon they have improved leaps and bounds, which they put down to the push coaching of Olympic medalist Dean Ward.

Then it was off to the gym for a light weights session. Physical coach Toni Minichiello feels it is important that the girls adjust their body clocks so physical training is scheduled for the same time that they will race at the Olympics - 17.30.

The team are all happy and working well together. The girls are entertained by the child-like enthusiasm with which the boys sport new bits of Olympic kit each day. For their part the girls all turned in early - excited and genuinely relishing the prospect of early morning track time - all of them - even Jackie.
