The morning heralded 4-Man training and Lee had two good runs - on the first run he had the fastest speed on the course. The crew is hoping to make bigger gains than the rest of the field this week as this was only their fourth and fifth push on the ice as a combination.

The girls had a good nights sleep and spent most of the morning relaxing. Everyone else was feeling the tension with fingers crossed that the girls could produce another 2 laufs like the second lauf of yesterday ? all very much aware that it was going to take a remarkable performance to win a medal, but hopeful that these two extremely determined young ladies had such a performance in them.

The team, support staff and families were at the bob-bahn to cheer them on. In a small room in the Grunwaldehof Hotel in Igls a party of sponsors, supporters and BBA members watched in tense silence as the night unfolded. The scene was replicated in thousands of homes in the UK as Brits watched on TV in their millions ? hoping that the girls would do themselves justice.

We all know now what happened:

3rd Lauf
Start 5.26 ? 2nd= fastest
Finish 58.41 ? 9th fastest
Position over all 8th
Deficit from leader +1.41

4th Lauf
Start 5.27 ? 3rd= fastest
Finish 58.48 ? 10th fastest
Position over all 9th
Deficit from leader +2.18

In the days ahead we will take stock. Tonight is a night for congratulations to Sandra Kiriasis who has won every race this year, and commiserations to two plucky and committed Brits who gave it their best shot and competed on the world stage.

Perhaps the most promising sign of all was the girl?s utter disappointment. They are not happy with just competing.

And that surely augers well.
