World Cup Round 06 and 07 - Whistler Race Reports, February 2009

The Bobsleigh World Cup Series has now moved to North America with the first race being at Whistler in Canada, which will host bobsleigh for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. For most, this was the first opportunity to drive on this new track, which already has a reputation for being fast and challenging. The Great Britain team attended the International Training Week held the week before the race and were well prepared when official training commenced.
2-Man Bobsleigh Race 07
The 2-Man bobsleigh race was held on 7th February 2009 and saw the Germany 2 pairing of Thomas Florschutz / Marc Kuehne score an important victory, ahead of Beat Hefti / Thomas Lamparter of Switzerland who finished in 2nd place and Pierre Leuders / David Bissett of Canada who finished in 3rd place.
The Great Britain team of Lee Johnston / Dan Money finished in 22nd place after the first run, and with only the top 20 getting a second run, their day was done.
4-Man Bobsleigh Race 06
The 4-Man bobsleigh race was held on 8th February 2009 with Latvia winning from the USA and Russia, keeping the Canadian team down in 4th place. Janis Minins / Daumants Dreiskens / Oskars Melbardis / Intars Dambis of Latvia finished in 1st place on both runs to take overall victory from Steven Holcomb / Justin Olsen / Steve Mesler / Curtis Tomasevicz of the USA, who finished in 2nd place and Alexsandr Zubkov / Philipp Egorev / Petr Moiseev / Curtis Tomasevicz of Russia who finished in 3rd place.
The GB1 bobsleigh crewed by Lee Johnston / Karl Johnston / Allyn Condon / Dan Money finished in a creditable 12th place, 1.48 seconds behind the winners.
Women's Bobsleigh Race 07
The Women's race was held on 7th February 2009 and saw Shauna Rohbock / Elana Meyers of the USA triumph over Kaillie Humphries / Heather Moyse of Canada, who finished in 2nd place, with Erin Pac / Michelle Rzepka of the USA finishing in 3rd place.
The GB1 bobsleigh of Nicola Minichiello / Gillian Cooke finished in 9th place, just 0.88 seconds away from the winners, and again posted impressive start times. The GB2 bobsleigh of Paula Walker / Kelly Thomas finished in 17th place having been in 15th position after the first run.
