Bobsleigh Talent ID
The University of Bath is currently home to British Bobsleighing. In 2001 a push-start facility was built to supplement an ageing start track at Thorpe Park, London.
As a centre of sporting excellence, the University of Bath provides a full range of facilities for our sport, as well as medical, physiological and psychological support.
Physical Requirements
Apart from the driver, the members of a bobsleigh crew exist to provide propulsion and initial acceleration to the sled over the first few seconds of a run.
This requirement usually means that competitors are fast, powerful and fit enough to withstand the rigours of the sport. The competitive season runs through the winter months involving much travelling, training, practice and competing in cold conditions. Ideally we are looking for good, all-round sportpersons who can produce quality performances and be competitive despite the rigours of the event.
No matter how anyone performs on the initial tests, it is the ability to push a sled on ice that is the overriding quality we seek. It has been proven many times that the fastest sprinter may not be the fast pusher. Also, being just big and strong may not be enough.
Minimum Performance Standards
Athletes wishing to represent Great Britain must hold a valid British Passport and must meet the minimum performance standards specified below:
